Red Raspberry Seed Oil has been used for decades, but most recently blew up in 2018, when people started to read more about its amazing skin benefits.
Red Raspberry (Rubus Idaeus) Seed Oil, belongs to the rose family, and is made from cold-pressing the seeds of organic raspberries. Correctly sourced, it is amber/yellow in colour with a light, almost cucumber-like smell.
It is packed with essential fatty acids and vitamins. Its composition of antioxidants makes for great protection against oxidative stress caused by free radical damage. The oils high levels of Vitamin A and Vitamin C work in conjunction with each other, to encourage healthy skin cell regeneration and growth, reduce scars, fine lines and wrinkles, and also increase collagen levels.
The results of oxidative stress include inflammation and skin ageing, which can lead to skin conditions such as eczema, rosacea and psoriasis. Red raspberry seed oil has more pronounced anti-inflammatory properties than grapeseed, avocado, and wheat germ oils, and has been named as the most effective oil to use against skin conditions that arise as a result of oxidative damage.
In addition to this, according research, [Oomah et. al] found that Raspberry seed oil has broad spectrum UV protection, similar to Titanium Dioxide, with an SPF of 28-50 against UVB rays, and SPF 8 against UVA rays. It also showed some absorbance of UVC rays. Now, we definitely can't claim this oil should be used alone as sun protection, but it looks like slapping some on won't hurt!
Red Raspberry seed oil is an amazing emollient- and like all other oils in my Rose Oil, non comedogenic. This all means that it will deeply penetrate your skin without clogging your pores. This makes it is a great product for all skin types. The oils high levels of phytosterols further reduce trans-epidermal water loss, further helping the skin retain hydration and moisture. Hydrated skin often feels healthier, retains elasticity, and has a glowing appearance.
